Line & Tackle

Line

There are 4 choices of fishing line type that work well for different applications; monofilament, braid, flourocarbon and hybrid lines. Most smallmouth bass anglers use lines in the 6-10 lb. test range for mono and hybrids lines and 15-20 lb. test for braid lines. The lighter lines (6 lb.) work fine in lakes, but you will want to go with a slightly heavier line in rivers due to rock abrasion that can cause frequent breakoffs.

Some recommended lines include:

Mono-

  • Berkeley Trilene XL
  • Berkeley Trilene XT
  • P-Line CXX Xtra Strong
  • Stren Original

Braid -

  • Power Pro
  • Berkely FireLine Crystal
  • Sufix Performance Braid

Flourocarbon -

  • P-Line Soft Flourocarbon
  • Berkely Vanish Transition
  • Yo-Zuri H20 Flourocarbon

Hybrid Lines -

  • P-Line Floroclear
  • Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft
